Emmerdale has hinted at a new romance for villain Tom King, played by James Chase, but viewers are not impressed. 

Fans will remember that the detestable resident has been subjecting his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) to abuse and manipulation for some time.

However, after a dramatic trip to Wales, Belle broke away, finally telling him their marriage was over.

Since then, Tom has taken up residence with the Kings, who remain blissfully ignorant of his true character.

While Belle returned to Dale Head when Tom changed the locks without her knowledge.

But she doesn’t know that he also had another key made and has installed video cameras in the house. 

In an episode aired on Friday (August 16), Belle joined Sam Dingle’s (James Hooton) birthday bash at the local pub, the Woolpack, where Tom approached for a conversation.

Maintaining her resolve, Belle told Tom she’d prefer it if he didn’t attend her family gatherings, which sparked his anger and threats. Suddenly, Belle defended herself and insisted he leave instantly, to the shock of the nearby Dingles, reports the Manchester Evening News.

An embarrassed Tom quickly exited, but Amelia Spencer (Daisy Arwen Campbell) came to his defence over at the bar.

She questioned why Belle was so “awful” to Tom, asking: “What’s he done that’s so bad? ” leaving Belle visibly taken aback.

Speculation is rife among viewers that Tom and Amelia from the popular show could be the next on-screen couple. On a Reddit thread, one viewer remarked: “The way Amelia stood up for Tom was weird.

“She treated Noah badly after they broke up so her comments make no sense. I can’t help feeling she’ll end up in a relationship with Tom. She’s single now. I wouldn’t put it past creepy Tom to do it thinking it’ll make Belle jealous.”

Another added their concerns: “I really hope not! Can Tom be trusted around Amelia’s daughter? ..it is possible he could harm her.”

A third suggested a potential plot twist: “He could go out with Amelia and treat her and Esther well to give the impression he’s over Belle (while secretly continuing to torment Belle). I can definitely see slimy Tom and innocent Amelia becoming a couple soon,” they said.

Meanwhile, another viewer expressed apprehension on X: “Amelia needs to get out fast if Tom starts making a move.”

And yet another comment pointed towards an ominous outcome: “How about Amelia get with Tom I’m sure she be in for a rude awakening.”
