Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) crimes have finally caught up with him in EastEnders, but is he set to let fiancé Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) take the blame?
Reiss and Sonia have been in serious debt for the past few months, after Reiss fell behind in paying off wife Debbie’s care home fees.
In a bid to cover the fees, Reiss attempted to scam Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), but was soon caught out when Phil realised that Reiss’ investment opportunity was fake.
Unable to afford Debbie’s care any longer, Reiss took drastic action and smothered her with a pillow, killing her.
Now, his crime has caught up with him, with the police arriving in Albert Square to question the residents about Reiss and his late wife.
After running into the detective in the café, Martin Fowler (James Bye) was quick to give Reiss the heads up that they were looking for him.
This sent Reiss into a panic, though Sonia managed to calm him down, despite him not revealing the real reason behind his anxiety attack.
The pair seemed happy as they arrived at their engagement party in the Vic, but the celebrations didn’t last for long when the police arrived, asking for Reiss.
As Reiss began to panic again, Sonia defended him, insisting to the onlookers that Debbie’s parents had been pressuring the police to look into Reiss.
However, as Sonia pointed out that Debbie was a very sick woman, and sick people sometimes die, the police dropped the bombshell that they suspected she had been murdered.
That wasn’t where the shocks ended though, as they revealed that they were arresting both Reiss and Sonia.
With Sonia caught up in Reiss’ mess, could he be set to let her take the blame?
Following Debbie’s death, EastEnders fans were quick to take to X/Twitter to point out that Sonia may be in serious trouble, after a series of unfortunate events.
First of all, detectives Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) overheard her telling ex-husband Martin it would be better if Debbie ‘slipped away’.
Just hours before, Sonia had called by the ward to speak with Debbie and was the only one who signed the visitor’s book. She also touched the pillow that Reiss used to commit his criminal act later in the day.
With all of the evidence stacked against her, could Reiss use this as an opportunity to get away with his crimes – and will he let Sonia go down for murder?
