EastEnders viewers were left pleading with show bosses after a soap legend sparked a double return rumour with a co-star, in a sweet reunion.
A snap of the pair shared to Instagram with the EastEnders hashtag sent the rumour mill into a spin. Actress Lucy Benjamin reunited with pal and former co-star Elaine Lordan for a sweet meet-up, and took to social media to share a lovely selfie of them together.
A flurry of their former co-stars reacted to the picture, thrilled to see the Lisa Fowler actress with Elaine, who played Lynne Slater on the B.B.C soap. But the snap also sparked rumours of a double return ahead of the show’s 40th anniversary.
Lisa was last onscreen a year ago, making a handful of reappearances since her arrival back in 1998. She returned for a longer stint in 2019, before returning for a few episodes last year.
Lynne hasn’t been on the show since 2004, first arriving with the Slaters in 2000. Viewers have hoped to see Lynne back in the Square for a Slater sisters reunion for years, and now the snap of Elaine and Lucy has left them once more hoping they both might come back.

Lucy had said of her reunion with Elaine: “Oh I love this woman with all my heart! #ElaineLordan #eastenders.” Responding, one hopeful fan posted: “Aaaaah come back Lynne Slater!! That would be amazing.”
Another eager fan agreed: “We need all the Slater sisters back again!” A third viewer added: “Lisa and Lynne return for the 40th?” The comments kept on coming too, with another post reading: “Now please come back on tv.”
One viewer also shared a theory about what might lead to Lynne’s long-awaited return to Albert Square. They posted online: “What if Kat and Alfie get married again and they stay happy this time…and Little Mo, Zoe, Belinda and Lynne all return for their wedding on 19/2/25?”
