Viewers have been convinced that Carla Connor could embark on a romantic relationship with DS Lisa Swain and, next week, the pair are caught in a deep conversation, possibly confirming theories.
The detective portrayed by Vicky Myers made her Coronation Street debut in May, 2021, but became a more prominent character in recent months, following Lauren Bolton’s disappearance.
In recent months, as Lisa Swain was revealed to be a lesbian single mother, viewers of the Manchester-based programme have speculated that she may fall for the Underworld boss, played by Alison King, who is freshly single, months after Peter Barlow’s exit from the cobbles on Boxing Day 2023.

Over on social media such as X, otherwise known as Twitter, multiple fans of the ITV soap have been hoping to see Carla and Lisa grow closer as the pair often share brief scenes together.
But in upcoming scenes, it appears romance could be in the air as Lisa’s daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) spots them in the midst of another exchange, after touching scenes aired this Wednesday (September 4) showed Carla try to repair Lisa’s relationship with her daughter Betsy.
Next week, Lisa and Carla share a deep conversation outside the Weatherfield police station, as the investigation around Lauren Bolton’s disappearance and torment continues, with Joel Deering (Calum Lill) running the risk of being thrown behind bars.
And when Betsy spots them, the teen approaches the duo, only to insinuate that there could be more to their relationship than meets the eye – but is she right?
As mentioned, soap fans have been speculating that love will be in the air between both women and comments flood social media. “DS Lisa Swain has defo got her eye on Carla”, “LISA DEFENDING CARLA HER WIFE SO TRUEEE”, some of them notably penned.
However, during a chat with Radio Times in July, 2024, actress Alison King poured cold water on the speculation as she said: “Unless they know something I don’t, as far as I know I don’t think it’s going that way! Though if the fans keep talking about it, the producers might get ideas!”
She’d then added: “I believe it came from them sharing their softer sides recently to each other. They are two strong women, both at an important stage of their independent life having been through a hell of a lot and are reaching out to each other.”
The soap star’s words triggered disappointment among TV watchers but, in another theory, many believe that Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) could become involved with DS Swain, due to the detective’s frequent visits at the Underworld k.n.i.c.k.e.r factory. Vicky Myers herself has also responded to rumours of an upcoming romance for her character.
