As viewers of the ITV soap know, Toyah took a pregnancy test which flagged as being a false positive, and a consultant warned that she may have cancer.
Following further tests and a scan, she was devastated to be diagnosed with germ cell ovarian cancer.
The doctor explained that she would need to undergo an operation, and that chemotherapy would be a possibility.
Luckily, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), who Toyah’s been engaging in a steamy affair with, has been by her side during each appointment.
In the absence of her sister Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
The support she’s been missing from Leanne is of course as a result of the bizarre ideologies that cult leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) has enforced onto her.
He suggested that Toyah’s cancer treatment could be causing a negative effect on Leanne’s wellbeing and that she should ’emotionally disconnect’ from her sister – and that’s exactly what she has done!
In tonight’s episode, she asked Nick if he’d prepared the funds (and by funds, we mean a whopping £40k!) to transfer to Rowan for the resource centre investment.
Nick assured her that he needed more time to think it through, and that he was too focussed on Toyah, who was having another consultation.
When Toyah entered the room, Leanne made her excuses and left.
At the hospital, she was told that the cancer is only in one ovary, and the operation she requires is to remove it.
However, if during surgery they find that it has spread, she will need a full hysterectomy and she will instantly go into early menopause.
Trying to make light of the situation, she noted the fact that it didn’t bother her as she hadn’t had much luck with fertility in the past.
Later in the day there seemed to be a bit of a breakthrough with Leanne, when she suddenly showed concern and asked Nick to be with Toyah when she goes in for the op.
She then questioned whether keeping her distance was an appropriate thing to do.
