The mystery behind Coronation Street icon Tracy Barlow’s sudden return to Weatherfield has been ‘uncovered’. 

Tracy, portrayed by Kate Ford, bid farewell to the street in April after her scandalous affair with footballer Tommy Orpington (played by Matt Milburn) came to light.

The affair led to a dramatic split from her husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), and she left abruptly to begin anew in Spain with her lover. 

Since Tracy’s departure, a heartbroken Steve seemed to be getting back into the dating game, having been on a string of dates in recent months. 

Additionally, he’s been seen growing closer to Cassie (Claire Sweeney), who is now looking after Tracy’s father, Ken Barlow (William Roache).

In another twist, Tracy and Steve’s daughter, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), 

has become entangled in a chilling cult storyline that has also ensnared Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), lured in by the enigmatic “self-help” group headed by the ominous Rowan (Emrhys Cooper).

In recent episodes, Leanne has persuaded Amy to join the group, unaware that their true motive is to get their hands on Amy’s savings, reports the Express.

This week saw Tracy make a surprise comeback, much to the fans’ excitement. However, she was less than thrilled to find Cassie in the role of Ken’s carer, leading to immediate tension between them.

Moreover, Tracy boldly declared her intention to take over as Ken’s carer herself, leaving both Ken and Cassie stunned. While many viewers believe Tracy has returned to rescue Amy from the clutches of The Institute, others speculate that Tracy may have a more malevolent plan in store for her dad.

Fans have taken to social media with a theory that Tracy’s comeback is all about Ken Barlow’s recent £50k windfall. One viewer speculated on Twitter: “Has Tracy heard Ken’s come into Money too. Double cups of Tea.”
