An iconic Coronation Street couple may be set to split as one character confesses to an affair in upcoming scenes.

Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) relationship with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has been tested in recent months 

after she was recruited into sinister cult The Institute by charming leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper).

Both sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and Nick have expressed their concerns over The Institute, though Leanne has adamantly defended its practices.

Despairing at Leanne’s choices, Toyah and Nick sought support from each other, and soon one thing led to another as the pair embarked on an affair behind Leanne’s back.

They faced a worrying situation when Toyah began suffering stomach pains, and a pregnancy test at the hospital revealed that she was pregnant.

However, it later transpired that the result was a false positive, and she actually had germ cell ovarian cancer.

As if that wasn’t difficult enough to come to terms with, sister Leanne made the shocking decision to distance herself from Toyah during her treatment.

In upcoming scenes, it is Nick that offers his support as Toyah goes to hospital for her operation, but he has no choice but to call for Leanne when he gets news from the consultant.

Though Rowan praises Leanne for putting her own needs first, she later informs him that she doesn’t have time to talk about The Institute as she’s going to visit Toyah, leaving Rowan worried that he is losing control of her.

Amid Leanne and Toyah’s reunion, Nick makes a shocking decision, and confides in Toyah that he loves her and plans to tell Leanne all about their affair.

Later, he receives a message from Rowan warning him that if he doesn’t hand over the £20k he promised to invest in The Institute soon then he’ll expose his and Toyah’s affair.
