Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) went missing earlier this year, and viewers were shocked to discover that Joel was the man responsible for her disappearance.
With Lauren believed to be dead, we were left stunned all over again when she appeared at Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) hospital bedside, very much alive.
However, the twists didn’t stop there, as she revealed to Joel that she was pregnant with his baby.
When Dee-Dee Bailey and Bethany Platt (Channique Sterling-Brown and Lucy Fallon) finally managed to track Lauren down.
Joel was terrified that he would be found out, and urged Lauren to blame Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) for the attack.
DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) wasted no time in paying Lauren a visit and, sure enough, Lauren followed Joel’s story, fitting up Nathan for the crime.
In return, she demanded that Joel arrange for her to start a new life in Ireland, by booking her flights and organising a place for her to stay.
Joel soon agreed, especially after Lauren revealed that she had an email scheduled to be sent to Lisa revealing everything. She warned that the email would automatically send in a month’s time, unless he kept his side of the bargain.
In a bid to show that he was serious, Joel presented Lauren with a flight in three weeks, explaining that this would give him time to find her somewhere to stay.
However, what he really had planned was much more sinister.
Back at home, Joel pulled out his laptop and began to research what drugs can induce premature labour. Is he set to drug Lauren and harm their baby?
During a recent chat with Metro.co.uk at the Radio Times Soap Awards, actress Cait Fitton revealed that there is ‘so much more to come’ in this storyline.
‘I’m excited for you guys to see how it unfolds,’ she enthused.
‘I can’t give anything away, but all I can say is it’s going to be a lot of drama, and we’re going to see a different side to Lauren that we haven’t really seen before. I’m very excited for you guys to see what’s going to be happening.’
