Corrie viewers were left gobsmacked as Joel Deering’s twisted plot thickened in recent scenes. Just weeks back, it was dropped that he was the n.a.s.t.y piece behind Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) ordeal in her flat before she mysteriously disappeared from the street.
While many thought the poor lass might have met a grim end, this week saw her being found by Joel’s (Calum Lill) other half Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) and Weatherfield’s own Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon).
But the plot took a wild turn when they found her only to discover she was expecting and little did they know, it was Joel’s kid!
In the latest Friday night drama, Joel somehow sweet-talked Lauren into keeping shtum about their dodgy past and fibbing to the cops about who really a.t.t.a.c.k.e.d h.e.r, reports the Express.
She played ball, pinning it on Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper), while Joel sorted her out with a hideaway at his mate’s place and started plotting her escape to Ireland.
Lauren’s got her own tricks though she’s got an email ready to spill the beans to DS Swain (Vicky Myers) if Joel tries any funny business with her or the nipper. Joel, playing the good guy, showed her he’d booked her a flight for August 12, buying himself three weeks to get his ducks in a row.
But as the episode wrapped up, it was dead obvious he’s got something more sinister up his sleeve, with him caught having a nosy online for “What drugs can induce premature labour.”
Viewers were quick to take to Twitter in response to Joel’s controversial new scheme.
One perturbed fan posted: “Induce premature labour, oh god Joel gets worse and worse. #Corrie”.
Another weighed in saying: “Joel looking up drugs to induce premature labour! Lauren is never going to Ireland is she? “.
Unimpressed by his actions, another viewer voiced their disgust, writing: “Ooh, that’s evil Joel.”
“Joel is stepping to a new low by wanting to induce premature labour for Lauren,” reeled someone else.
An alarmed follower speculated: “Joel is going to make Lauren lose her baby.. “.
Meanwhile, another viewer expressed their lack of trust for the character, warning: “I wouldn’t trust Joel if he told me the time of day!”
