A Coronation Street villain looks set to return to the ITV soap after being spotted on set.

Ciaran Griffiths – who plays Damon Hay – has been spotted on the Media City set, fuelling speculation that he is making a return to the ITV soap. 

He has played villain Damon on and off for several months now but it looks like he may be making a comeback.

Damon was imprisoned for his part in an armed robbery, and featured in some prison scenes alongside his brother Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor). 

He has not been seen since – but with some prison scenes likely coming up, who else is going to find themselves behind bars?

“Ciaran has been spotted on set in recent days – which will be a shock to fans because when he left the show, he went back to Australia. 

The actor returns to filming whenever the show needs to see him in prison,” a source told The Sun.

“Because his character was sentenced to six years behind bars, that means it’s likely one unlucky cobbles resident is going to end up in prison – as Damon isn’t getting out any day soon.”

If Ciaran has been spotted on set, could this indicate that Joel is set to be imprisoned very soon for what he did to Lauren?

Speaking about the end of his storyline, actor Calum Lill teased there would be darker scenes ahead. Warning that some residents could find themselves in trouble, he said: “Obviously, I can’t say how far, but its further than I thought he would go. When I read it I was scared to even play it, because it was that dark! He’ll go to any lengths that he needs to.”

Dee-Dee will grow suspicious of Joel next week – but with their legal backgrounds, a confrontation between the pair will no doubt end in fireworks. He describes their argument as a “battle of expertise”.

He said: “The great thing is you’ve got two people who, for their job, they interrogate, they defend, they deflect and are going up against each other. So she cross-examines him, he’s coming up with excuses and deflecting, coming up with plausible things and trying to direct her in other ways. Interesting to watch play out, they are both very good at getting answers. It’s a battle of expertise.”
