A beloved Coronation Street character could be in danger of being murdered by Joel Deering in a shocking plot twist.
Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill), who initially appeared on the cobbles as a friendly face last year, has revealed his sinister side in recent episodes.
It was recently disclosed that he was responsible for the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (portrayed by Cait Fitton).
Joel insidiously infiltrated Lauren’s life by assisting her with bills and eventually manipulated her into a sexual relationship.
After a heated argument in which Lauren mentioned his fiancee Dee-Dee, Joel violently attacked her and left her for dead.
However, after vanishing for several months, Lauren returned to Weatherfield, revealing to Joel that she was carrying his child.
Since then, Joel has attempted to buy her silence by offering her accommodation in his old flat.
He also proposed to finance her move to Ireland to start afresh, disclosing that she would depart on August 12 and he had three weeks to arrange everything, reports the Express.
In a horrifying turn of events, Joel gave Lauren drugs to induce premature labour, resulting in the birth of their son last week. Concurrently, Joel has found himself being extorted by newcomer Betsy Swain (played by Sydney Martin), the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
Betsy has been blackmailing Joel for several weeks after observing his unsettling behaviour towards her friend Sabrina. In the episode aired on August 5, Joel discovered that Betsy’s mother is Lisa Swain, leaving him visibly rattled.
