Coronation Street’s Joel Deering has paved the way for an epic comeuppance, after the villain’s lies continued to spiral this week.

After a number of slip-ups for months, more so in recent weeks and even days, his latest vile actions could be the thing that triggers his downfall. His sick crimes could finally come to light, from grooming young girls, blackmail and even attempted murder.

His link to Lauren Bolton is yet to be exposed, but he once again came dangerously close to exposing what he’d been up to to Weatherfield residents this week. Now he has another big mistake possibly in his hands, amid his comments to residents sparking suspicion.

Ahead of characters including Dee-Dee Bailey finally cottoning onto the fact something isn’t right with the solicitor, the beginning of his downfall and the end of his reign of terror could be in sight. Next week, spoilers tease he could do something that only makes matters worse for him for more than one reason.

Back to his existing slip-ups, the big one would be that he tried to kill Lauren back in February only for her to survive. While he’s got Lauren onside for now, with him being her ticket out of Weatherfield, this could be about to change after a horrifying baby twist.

In disgusting scenes Joel drugged pregnant Lauren with pills that would bring on an early labour, resulting in her being rushed to hospital. His sick plan backfired though, and her baby survived – no doubt leaving Joel fearing he will be exposed as the biological father.

With Lauren now having her son, praying he survives, could it change her whole perspective on her planned exit and her covering for Joel? Might she finally reveal he’s the father, never mind the fact he groomed her and then attacked her?

Joel could be on borrowed time, especially after Max Turner found Lauren at the flat – which could well be proven to be linked to Joel. How will he explain this? There’s also his odd reactions about Lauren and the baby, which could well spark suspicion with partner Dee-Dee.

His constant comments about being one of the good guys to DS Swain may also derail his plan, with Swain now eager to speak with Lauren following the birth of her son. Then there’s Swain’s teen daughter Betsy who is harassing Joel over his lies, knowing exactly what he is.

She’s been blackmailing him and is ready to expose him, but she could find herself in serious danger next week as Joel appears to snap once more. When she asks for more money, he loses his temper and drags her into the ginnel.

Will he hurt Betsy and if he does will she end up revealing what he’s done? Targeting the daughter of the detective investigating Lauren’s disappearance probably isn’t the best idea, but it seems Joel is getting desperate, and clearly isn’t thinking things through like he possibly was prior to the Lauren drama.

Clearly thinking he’s untouchable, he’s managed to dupe everyone into believing he’s the street’s hero, there to help everyone. But with his lies unravelling, him making risky choices and his latest sick plan backfiring, surely it’s now only a matter of time before he’s finally exposed, and he only has himself to blame!
