Joel Deering could be on the verge of meeting comeuppance in Coronation Street as he discovered Betsy’s true identity in tonight’s instalment of the soap.
The duty solicitor portrayed by former Hollyoaks star Calum Lill has been wreaking havoc in the ITV cobbles
after bonding with wayward teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), whom he eventually took advantage of and violated.
For months, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was convinced Lauren had been killed, leading her to wrongfully accuse and arrest Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
But Lauren eventually returned with a bombshell, telling Joel she was pregnant with his baby.
Meanwhile, viewers of the Manchester-based programme were introduced to Lisa Swain’s feisty daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin)
who began turning the screws on Joel as the pair were once involved – but he had no idea her mother was a detective.
During this Monday’s trip to the cobbles (August 5, 2024), Joel was able to meet his new-born son, after Lauren went into early labour last week, with a blissfully unaware Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) and things took a turn when Lisa Swain personally headed to the hospital to ask for a DNA test on her new baby, thus proving Nathan Curtis was her tormentor.
A terrified Lauren refused, unable to reveal DS Swain got it all wrong and, in later scenes, the detective pleaded with Joel for help, asking for him to convince Lauren to change her mind and making a reference to her mischievous daughter.
Joel looked tense as he tried to throw her off his scent and with Betsy exerting pressure on him, certain she is able to send him down for good by exposing his creepy behaviour around teenage girls, walls appear to be closing in on the villain.
Things only got worse this Monday as, later on, a troublesome Betsy stole an item from Dev Alahan’s corner shop, leaving his son Aadi Alahan to confront her and her mother on the Street as Joel observed from his car, clearly panicked by the pair’s connection.
Now viewers believe DS Swain and Betsy will both have an important role to play in Joel’s downfall, with many flocking to X, otherwise known as Twitter, to share their thoughts.
“Can’t wait for Lisa to get one up on Joel it’s only a matter of time”, one fan penned. Another added: “Come on Swain, do the hard sums and get Joel already.”
A third continued: “DS Swain is like a dog with a bone”, while another echoed: “I still think Swain could secretly get the DNA test done or Dee Dee will.” One more fan even pleaded: “C’mon Lauren, confide in DS Swain…get rid of Joel.”
Betsy will be facing huge danger this week as spoilers have hinted she could be on Joel’s hitlist. Determined to find dirt he can use as leverage against her, Joel is set to scroll through her social media, while his oblivious fiancée Dee-Dee tries to book their honeymoon.
Joel will soon cross paths with Betsy again in another confrontation and the teen will demand £100 in exchange for her silence. Enraged by her ruse, Joel will drag her to the ginnel – but will he make another victim?
