Laila Rouass has let slip what Ayesha is hiding on EastEnders ahead of the truth being ‘revealed’.

Footballers Wives star Laila has signed up for a special role on the BBC soap, recently arriving to Walford as the former lover of Suki – and the ex of Hardeep.

Who Nish killed when he found out his wife was having an affair with Ayesha.

Teasing there was “drama wherever Ayesha went”, she said it was a “dream” signing up for a guest role on the BBC soap. 

Speaking on This Morning today, she told hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle: “I’m an east Ender. 

So I remember the first scene in EastEnders, I used to live next to a place called Arbor Square, I wanted to be on EastEnders. 

It has always been on my bucket list. I remember I was doing a scene on the Square.

“As we drove in and parked, I was like ‘we’re on the Square!’ It’s the Queen Vic, everything – it’s iconic! It’s so weird because I’ve done films with big names, I auditioned with Hugh Jackman for Wolverine. No one cares. It’s all about Phil Mitchell and Lacey Turner. I’m not bothered about the Hollywood sets, this is where it’s at.”

Laila also warned there could be trouble ahead for the Panesars – as Ayesha might be hiding something.

“The thing with Ayesha, she’s smart, intelligent and independent. She’s really kind aswell. You never really know – is this who she really is? Anything could happen! They give you the freedom to develop your character. You get time to talk about your character,” she said of what’s to come.

However, she seemingly hinted there wasn’t an affair storyline in store for Suki and Ayesha.

She said of what fans can expect going forward: “They’re just close friends. They were neighbours. Nish is dying, it’s a lot for Ayesha to take on. There’s a lot of familiarity with Suki’s character.”

When Ayesha arrived in the Square, actress Laila shared her connection with Navin Chowdry and Balvinder Sopal. She said: “I cannot tell you how excited I am to be in EastEnders! I was born in the East End and grew up there, and there was such a buzz when the show started. Even though I was little at the time, I can clearly remember the first episode and Doctor Legg arriving at the flat where Reg Cox had been murdered. I’ve also known Navin Chowdhry (Nish) for many years, so it was great to work with him again and to do scenes with Balvinder Sopal (Suki) and the rest of the Panesars as Ayesha reunites with them. This is a lifelong dream come true!”
