General Hospital Spoilers: Is Sonny Really Gio’s Biological Father or Just a Red Herring?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that many fans are in panic mode based on the hints the show just dropped. In the July 17 episode, GH writers gave viewers a reason to believe Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) might be Giovanni “Gio” Palmieri’s (Giovanni Mazza) real father.

As Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) told Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) about Gio’s deceased parents, it didn’t seem like she was offering up the whole story.

Gio’s mother was named Camilla and eloped with Francis Palmieri before he was deployed to Afghanistan.

Camilla wasn’t able to tell Francis she was pregnant before he was killed in action.

Lois talked about how Sonny was in Bensonhurst back then and wanted to make sure Camilla was OK.

Camilla ultimately passed away when Gio was 10, so Lois also contacted Sonny about paying for Gio’s musical education and training.

All of that led to some suspicions for Carly since she found it odd that Sonny never mentioned Gio to her before.

On social media, fans are already flipping out about the possibility that surrogate Uncle Sonny may actually be Daddy Sonny!

It’s possible that Sonny had an affair with Camilla and opted to keep quiet to protect Gio from the mob.

Some viewers have even suggested that Lois might be Gio’s true mother and that she might’ve had a fling with Sonny instead.

However, we’d say there’s a simpler explanation.

There’s a good chance Sonny is just a red herring who’s emerged in the early stages of Gio’s biological father mystery.

Sonny doesn’t need any more kids – and Maurice Benard himself has been pretty vocal about that. It’s just hard to believe the writers are going to give Sonny ANOTHER child!

Plus, the show’s offered some other intriguing clues that perhaps shift suspicion away from Sonny.

Gio had a moment in June where he thought Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) seemed familiar – and not just from Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase’s (Josh Swickard) nuptials.

At the end of the July 17 episode, Gio interacted with Jason and once again seemed rather intrigued by him – like maybe he was trying to remember where he knew his face from.

Of course, Jason doesn’t need any more kids either. It seems like Jason has enough on his plate trying to reconnect with Jake Webber (Hudson West) and Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn).

Instead, Gio may be remembering an old picture of Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison), who was Jason’s identical twin until reconstructive surgery changed his whole look.

CDL previously speculated that Drew might be Gio’s bio dad – and that theory is certainly still in play.

It might even be one of Drew’s scandals when his political campaign inevitably blows up.

Bottom line, this may be a situation where the show wants fans to believe Sonny is Gio’s father so they can pull off a shocker when it’s really someone else.

Whether Gio’s dad is Drew or somebody even more surprising, our predictions suggest this story is far from over and will come with plenty of twists.

Things may not quite add up just yet, but that’ll change once more puzzle pieces are revealed.
