A horrifying tragedy unfolds in Emmerdale as Matty Barton meets a violent end in prison. 

Since his incarceration, Matty has been living on the edge, desperately hiding his identity as a trans man to avoid the grave danger it poses. 

Fortunately, his cellmate Les knows his secret and has so far kept the bully Robbo at bay. However, a deadly turn of events is set in motion by a grave error made by Amy Wyatt.

Matty has been struggling, even missing Amy’s 30th birthday to avoid her seeing him in such a dark place. Recently, he’s been allowing himself to see a glimmer of hope. 

Les has been a great support, accepting Matty as a trans man, which has done wonders for his confidence. 

Matty shares this positive development with Amy, who is thrilled to relay that they have a new, proactive solicitor. 

Things are looking up, and Matty starts to believe he might be home soon.

However, this hope is short-lived. As Amy watches Matty leave, looking happier than he has in a long time, Robbo approaches her. Mistaking him for Les, Amy unknowingly reveals Matty’s biggest secret to Robbo, feeling pleased with herself for helping. She has no idea of the danger she has just unleashed.

Armed with this knowledge, Robbo heads straight to Matty’s cell. With Les away meeting his solicitor, Matty is alone. Robbo forces his way into the cell, and Matty’s blood runs cold as he realizes Robbo knows the truth. Trapped, Matty braces himself for the violence that is about to come. The episode leaves viewers on edge, wondering if Amy is about to receive the worst phone call of her life.
