A Coronation Street legend is reportedly set to make a dramatic return to the soap and fans says she’s on a mission to dismantle the eerie Institute.
Earlier this year, fans of the ITV soap were introduced to the enigmatic “self-improvement group” known as The Institute. This cult, under the leadership of Rowan Cunliffe (Emhrys Cooper), managed to pique the interest of local resident Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
It wasn’t long before she became a member, much to the worry of her fiance Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor), who have both expressed their concerns about Leanne’s involvement.
Despite their objections, the Institute has managed to maintain its grip on Leanne, who has since brought Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) into the fold.
During Monday’s episode (July 8), Toyah and Leanne attend a new recruits session at the Chariot Square Hotel, where Leanne is thrilled to see Amy among the attendees.
However, fans now believe that a certain someone is returning to the cobbles with a plan to “bring The Institute down” – Tracy Barlow. As viewers will remember, the soap icon, portrayed by Kate Ford, bid farewell to the show earlier this year.
Tracy made the decision to abandon her daughter Amy, fleeing with her new beau Tommy Orpington to Spain for his fresh employment opportunity. However, in June, insiders hinted that Tracy is set to return soon – albeit briefly, before making a more permanent comeback later in the year, as reported by The Mirror.
Now, viewers are convinced that Tracy’s return will be to rescue Amy from the clutches of a cult. On a Corrie Reddit thread, one fan stated: ” It has been confirmed that Kate Ford (Tracy) is to return to Weatherfield sometime next month.”
“My guess is she will be back not just to see Steve or her new boyfriend Tommy O, but her daughter Amy will be in a sticky situation as she gets involved with the Institute. Please god no! “.
Another chimed in: “Hope Tracy ends the Institute.” A third wrote: “That’s what I’m hoping for.” Another added: “I think Ken or Steve will raise the alarm regarding Amy giving Deirdre money away and that’s what brings Tracy back.”
