Coronation Street fans are speculating that Rowan Cunliffe, portrayed by Emrhys Cooper, is on the brink of leaving Weatherfield as Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford, is tipped to reveal the truth about The Institute. The self-help ‘cult’ leader has been attempting to extract money from Amy Barlow, played by Elle Mulvaney, promising her a profitable investment in a new resource centre.
The group has already ensnared Leanne Battersby, played by Jane Danson, causing friction with her partner Nick Tilsley, portrayed by Ben Price. However, in Friday’s episode (August 23), Rowan persuaded Amy to leave her job at the bistro, much to Nick’s annoyance.
Slyly, Rowan suggested to Amy that she could make a substantial profit by investing in The Institute instead of waiting tables. Amy had previously considered using the inheritance from her grandmother Deidre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride, for this purpose.
Luckily, her mate Aadi Alahan, played by Adam Hussain, convinced her not to risk all her savings and to question Rowan more about how she would recover her investment and any potential earnings. Despite Aadi’s caution against trusting him, Amy remained confident in Leanne’s judgement.
However, upcoming scenes show Rowan unyielding in his scheme to take Amy’s money. In episodes airing next week, Leanne confronts Rowan who tells her that Amy is undergoing an ‘upload’ and is also rethinking investing in the resource centre, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Leanne’s being prompted by Rowan to convince her other half, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), to get on board with a new scheme. Meanwhile, during Amy’s emotional unloading sesh, Leanne’s jaw hits the floor as she uncovers that crafty Rowan is secretly recording.
Amy’s all set to bend Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) ear about getting her hands on her inheritance for some investment action, but Ken gives the thumbs down, not buying what Amy’s selling.
Fast-forward to later in the week, and The Institute is causing major dramz for Amy, making her mum Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) proper furious. Fans of the Street reckon this means Tracy’s about to put Rowan in his place big time!
