EastEnders character Maya Houssain (Bharti Patel) has left Albert Square behind, after cutting ties with Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) – but is she gone for good?
Maya first appeared in Walford earlier this year when Harvey offered her a ride in his taxi.
The pair hit it off straight away and began to bond over their shared love of Tottenham Hotspurs.
However, Maya was hiding a secret, and soon began asking Harvey to help her financially. Harvey obliged, but it didn’t take long for him to get to the bottom of her lies.
After paying her a visit at home, Harvey was shocked to discover that she was actually married, and that he had a connection to her husband.
It transpired that Maya’s husband had been seriously injured in a racist attack led by Harvey’s son Aaron in 2021, which Harvey gave him an alibi for, meaning that he got away with it.
Maya explained that she had been trying to get money out of Harvey as a way of compensation, and Harvey later agreed to continue supporting her financially.
Unfortunately, this caused tension in his relationship with Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), who didn’t like the fact that they were barely spending time together anymore.
After discovering why Harvey had been working so many extra shifts, Jean urged him to cut ties with Maya for the sake of their relationship.
Harvey wasted no time in meeting with Maya, where he explained Jean’s position, and Maya was quick to take her side.

She revealed that her husband was doing much better, and had even asked to go for a walk recently. She thanked Harvey for helping them, but insisted that it was time they went their separate ways.
With that, Maya said her goodbyes and left Albert Square behind. Will she stay away for good, or could she be set to return and cause more trouble for Harvey and Jean?
