EastEnders fans are set to be left devastated as a beloved character prepares to bid farewell to the iconic square.
Linda Carter, portrayed by Kellie Bright, first graced Walford in 2013 and quickly became a fan favourite as the matriarch of the Carter family.
She has been at the centre of numerous major storylines over the years, including her struggle with alcoholism and her turbulent relationship with Mick, played by Danny Dyer.
This is particularly true at present, as she continues to grapple with the murder and subsequent cover-up of Keanu Taylor, played by Danny Walters.
Viewers will remember how Linda ended up stabbing Keanu at Christmas when he tried to strangle Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean.
Linda, Sharon, and the rest of The Six ladies ended up framing Linda’s rapist Dean Wicks, portrayed by Matt Di Angelo, for the crime, resulting in him currently being behind bars.
However, things have taken a dramatic turn for Linda, who struggles with alcoholism, in the past week.
As the plea hearing for Dean’s trial approaches, Linda has returned to drinking. It was also revealed that Dean has been pressuring Bernie Taylor, played by Clair Norris, into tormenting Linda by sending her threatening letters.
Things came to a head between Linda and Johnny, played by Charlie Suff, resulting in a massive confrontation and Johnny expressing his wish that his mother was dead. In a devastating turn of events, Linda turned to alcohol again and ended up choking on her own vomit in her sleep. Johnny quickly found her and an ambulance was called, rushing Linda to the hospital.
Fortunately, she pulled through. Spoilers for the upcoming EastEnders episodes reveal that Linda is preparing to leave Walford for a stint in rehab. In the episode airing on Monday (August 19), Linda will meet with her keyworker to discuss entering rehab, thanks to Elaine’s generous offer to cover the costs.
