EastEnders’ Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) will feel the net closing in on him next week, as he comes face-to-face with two unexpected arrivals who threaten to expose his killer secret.
Soap fans have seen Reiss smother his wife Debbie – who had been in a coma since suffering a stroke years prior – to death in her care home bed in shock scenes, as he took deadly action to clear his mounting debts.
Next week will see Debbie’s parents Brenda and Hugh Collins – played by Michael Bertenshaw and Nichola McAuliffe – arrive in Walford, leaving Reiss with some serious questions to answer.
First though, he will need to overcome the hurdle that Debbie’s parents have no idea about partner Sonia Fowler’s (Natalie Cassidy) existence, or that she is Reiss’ new girlfriend.
Thursday’s episode of the BBC soap saw the action pick up with Reiss checking for Debbie’s pulse and placing the pillow he’d killed her with back behind her head.
Trying to leave the building, he spotted one of Debbie’s carers, but hid from her sight, and managed to slip out unnoticed, potentially meaning there was no record of him ever being there.
However, he was later rattled when he and his partner Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) returned to the care home after being notified of Debbie’s death to find police at the scene.
The police then revealed there would be a post-mortem into Debbie’s death as standard procedure, but Reiss attempted to try and put them off, fearing his killer secret would come to light.
Back home, Reiss discovered Sonia had been planning to sell her house to help, and realising this would have solved their money problems, the enormity of what he’d done hit as he broke down in Sonia’s arms.
Despite his guilt, it is starting to look plausible that Sonia will be the one jailed for Reiss’ crimes.
Will Debbie’s parents be able to get to the truth about their daughter’s death?
