EastEnders fans have been left cringing after only just realising Lauren Branning had a relationship with a family member.

The soap favourite, played by Jacqueline Jossa first appeared back in 2006 with the rest of the Branning clan. And it didn’t take long for Lauren to find herself involved in some of the soap’s biggest storylines.

From her alcohol addiction to exposing her dad Max (Jake Wood) and Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) affair on Christmas Day, Lauren’s time in Walford has not been short of drama.

So much so at the moment, as this week, she learned some shock news about her son Louie. Lauren has also caught the eye of womaniser Junior Knight (Micah Balfour).

Back in 2013, Lauren struck up a relationship with her first cousin Joey Branning (David Witts). Their on-screen fling divided their family as well as viewers – but Lauren’s alcohol problem eventually came between them and they split.

On a recent Reddit thread, fans shared their shock after only just remembering Lauren and Joey’s infamous fling. One person said: “One thing about eastendersssss, everybody’s slept with everybody!

“Eastenders enjoy’s messy cheating storylines. Trying to decide which is worse: Lauren sleeping with her cousin, Lauren sleeping with her best friend’s boyfriend or Lauren’s potential storyline with junior (hopefully not!)”

A second replied: “definitely her cousin, i think i blocked that out because i don’t remember. too traumatised.” A third agreed and penned: “Haha same.”

While on X, another viewer proclaimed: “I’m sorry but did anyone actually ship Lauren s******g her cousin Joey. Her FIRST BLOOD COUSIN?”

Someone else wrote: “Ugh. I’m about to start the Lauren and Joey storyline in EastEnders. It makes me feel sick. And from what I remember, everyone was okay with it? What a strange time.”
